The Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism, His Excellency Saif Saed Ghobash recently stated in an interview with CNBC, that Abu Dhabi strives to diversify GDP away from oil and one of the key sectors that enable them to do so, is tourism. He stated that UAE presents itself as a family-friendly leisure destination, home to premier malls, amusement parks and many Abu Dhabi resorts including the likes of Desert Islands Resort & Spa by Anantara.
He also went on to state that what distinguishes them is their cultural offerings such as historic sites and mega museums including the recently inaugurated Louver. His Excellency went on to say that Emiratis consider themselves to be global citizens with a responsibility towards the world, and a part of their mandate in the department is to inspire strong national pride and awareness, through cultural programmes and festivals.
