An increase in international visitors arrived in Thailand in the first quarter of this year generated around Bt455 billion in tourism revenue according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand. The authority indicated that they expected a further increase in the second quarter. The Commerce Ministry also showed and growth in exports in March which was a reported 1.3% increase from the same period last year. However, oil related products and the value of electronic appliances continued to decrease. The tourism sector saw growth with many Sukhumvit Hotels in Bangkok such as the Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel and many distinguished others helping to attract tourists. The SCB chief economist Sutapa Amornvivat stated that although there are positive signs in the global economic situation, it would take time for Thai exports to regain their original demand.
