Why Maldives should be Singapore’s First Leisure Travel Bubble

A leisure travel bubble or a leisure green lane is an exclusive partnership with a nearby country that has been successful in combating the COVID-19 pandemic within its borders. Singapore is considering launching a pilot leisure travel bubble with the Maldives, considering its size and type of travel associated with the islands. The Maldives do not see frequent island hopping by tourists even during normal circumstances; holidaymakers usually remain within the confines of their own Maldives water suite or similar facilities offered by popular properties such as Anantara Dhigu Maldives Resort. These would make ideal travel bubble conditions for Singapore.

Although the Maldivian leisure travel bubble may include exposure to staff, a strict testing regime will be able to drastically reduce the associated risk.
