Winter Tourists Return to Sri Lanka

Tourism Sector Showing Steady Recovery

According to an article published online by the Daily Financial Times (Daily FT) of Sri Lanka, the return of winter tourists to the island at the end of 2019 has helped the tourism sector on its road to recovery. The sector suffered a huge set back in terms of earnings and arrivals last year, following the deadly Easter Sunday terror attacks.

While the months immediately following the attacks saw a drastic drop in tourists, following increased security measures and the lifting of travel advisory bans, the island is slowly but surely getting back on track. The article highlighted the arrival of Russian tourists in the winter season as they enjoyed some of the top things to do in Sri Lanka which included relaxing at Unawatuna Beach and exploring Galle Fort; the latter is often on itineraries by travel specialists the likes of Walkers Tours as it is a key attraction and a UNESCO World Heritage Site which draws tourists from around the world.
