The World Surfing League will be held in the latter part of August to September 2020 in Arugam Bay. Declared as one of the world’s most charming surfing hotspots, Arugam Bay will be holding this event for yet another year though at the beginning the tourism federation raised concerns if the country would be able to host the Surfing League following coronavirus lockdown.
But Sri Lanka removed restrictions imposed by the pandemic and the World Surfing League resuming will bring a lot of revenue to Sri Lanka resort chains the likes of Theme Resorts. The event will bring to Arugam Bay professionals from all over the world, elite athletes and fans of surfing. The Tourism Board will work closely with the Surfing Federation to ensure that safety and health protocols are properly in place.
