On 3rd October 2020, World Tourism Day 2020 was celebrated by the Ministry of Tourism in Cambodia; this year the theme was “tourism and rural development” with a focus on how to responsibly restart tourism. The event was held in Siem Reap home to the historical Angkor Wat temple complex located close to properties like Anantara Angkor Resort. It will be hoped that with this development, those staying at a budget or boutique hotel Siem Reap has to offer, can further explore and experience other local attractions as well.
At the event, which was held under the necessary health and safety guidelines, Minister of Tourism, H.E. Dr. Thong Khon, spoke of the need for an ASEAN travel bubble; he further highlighted the note-worthy fact that an ASEAN Tourism Post COVID-19 Recovery Plan and an ASEAN Tourism Safety and Hygiene Guideline were being developed by the ASEAN National Tourism Organisations.
