Sri Lanka is setting an ambitious target to attract three million tourists in 2025, a significant increase from the 2.1 million goal set for 2024. This initiative is part of the country’s strategy to recover from the foreign debt crisis that started in 2022.

Back in 2023, revenue from tourism surged to US$2.1 billion from US$1.1 billion in 2022. In 2024, from January to November, revenue reached US$2.8 billion, up from US$1.8 billion during the same period in 2023. The number of tourist arrivals also increased to 1.8 million in 2024 compared to the first eleven months of 2023, which totalled 1.3 million in the same time frame. Key source markets include Russia, Germany, the UK, India, and China. Tourists also have the option of using special offers at a luxury hotel in Nuwara Eliya the likes of Araliya Green Hills and other hotels across the island.
