A New Tourism Strategy for the Maldives

Announced last month, the Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) is planning to revamp the country’s tourism strategy next year with a greater focus on niche markets. Amongst the areas that will be highlighted are sports tourism, cultural experiences and MICE related facilities and services. At present in the Maldives, all inclusive resorts on private islands are quite popular with properties such as VARU by Atmosphere attracting travellers from around the world.

This new strategy of the Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation will be implemented through marketing campaigns, trade roadshows and other forms of promotion. It will look to shine the light on different aspects; these include activities like surfing and beach volleyball, cultural discoveries and heritage sites on local islands as well as infrastructure and venues to host diverse conferences and events.
