The Lunar New Year is celebrated by most countries in the Asian region including the likes of Vietnam and China. This year Cambodia hosted more than 800,000 holidaymakers, both foreign and domestic during the festival. The numbers were up by 93 percent from the previous year during the Lunar New Year period which was a major plus for the tourism sector in Cambodia. The Ministry of Tourism attributed the high number of visits due to improved infrastructure, better service quality, and political stability.
The festival which took place from the 15th to the 18th of February 2018 saw provinces such as Preah Sihanouk, and Siem Reap among the most popular destinations visited. Resorts and luxury hotels in Siem Reap including the likes of Anantara Angkor Resort were bustling with guests during this time. More than 90,000 visitors were accommodated by the province during this year’s Lunar New Year period.
