The highly anticipated Chopi Music Festival is set to return to southern Mozambique’s Inhambane Province later this year. Traditionally held between late July and August, the festival is a lively celebration of the Chopi people’s unique musical heritage.
This annual event draws music enthusiasts and cultural aficionados from across the globe. Attendees can expect a series of mesmerizing performances featuring up to 30 handcrafted timbila, a xylophone-like instrument central to Chopi music. Traditional dances and energetic rhythms fill the air as communities come together to preserve and share their indegionous identities.

Mozambique is home to a mixture of several indigenous tribes and ethnic groups, whose customs and languages have survived Portuguese colonization.
Southern Mozambique, populated mainly by the Tsonga, Chopi and Tonga communities, is a popular tourist destination for its famed natural landscapes in Maputo and along the coasts.
