Dubai Drops Its 30% Tax on Alcohol – Move Expected to Attract More Tourists

As part of its initiatives to draw more visitors, Dubai has done away with its 30% tax on alcohol and a licence fee that was earlier required to purchase alcohol. As reported on the Al Jazeera news website, these new measures came into effect on 1st January 2023 and are expected to run on a trial basis for one year; alcohol sold in stores already reflects the reduction of prices after the removal of the tax. Such a move is seen as one which will increase the appeal of Dubai for travellers and expatriate residents looking to experience a more liberal lifestyle in comparison with other cities in the Gulf region.

Tourism is a key contributor to the local economy which has seen a relatively quick turnaround since the pandemic, and it’s hoped that more arrivals will be recorded this year. Visitors can also look forward to safe accommodation at properties like Avani Deira Dubai Hotel which are ideal for both business and leisure. From such hotels in Dubai Deira, tourists can not only enjoy shopping and sightseeing but nightlife too at popular bars, clubs and lounges where alcohol is served.
