Starting on the 8th Full Moon of the Lunar Calendar, the festival is preceded by lantern festivals and notably, the Tai Hang Fire Dragon dance.
It is a holiday likened to American Thanksgiving where families and friends gather together to celebrate the harvest season. They carry lanterns around the city and partake in many carnivals and light shows.
The Lantern Carnivals are further enjoyable thanks to their wide varieties of entertainment featuring music and dance, processions, Kung Fu demonstrations and acrobatics. The whole city joins in the celebrations and it is quite a jovial time to visit Hong Kong.
The festival can be enjoyed at leisure from one of the boutique hotels in Hong Kong which will be decked out in decadent lanterns for the festival. Be sure to check out the décor at Cosmo Hotel Wan Chai Hong Kong.
