Indonesia is focusing on sustainable tourism, setting an ambitious goal of attracting 14.3 million international visitors in 2024. This was put in the spotlight in January this year by Sandiaga Uno, the Tourism and Creative Economy Minister who was speaking at the Asia-Pacific Tourism Conference held on the island of Bali. This initiative is part of a strategy that seeks to tap into the current demand for green tourism as well as to create new jobs and boost the local economy.
According to the minister, the country will be focusing on cultural tourism, ecotourism, and adventure tourism in keeping with global trends; he also stressed the need for stakeholders to collaborate to help ensure sustainable tourism practices are followed. Travellers interested in holidays here that introduce them to sustainable practices can look forward to some of the more unique things to do in Bintan, Indonesia. This includes enjoying the special experience provided by The Residence Bintan where guests can learn about the resort’s eco-cycle of farming; they can even get a hands-on guide in compost making, planting a nursery, animal feeding and more, making for an enriching getaway.
