Morocco has achieved a significant milestone in its tourism sector, as the country welcomed a record-breaking number of arrivals in the first quarter of 2023. The latest figures from the tourism ministry reveal that Morocco attracted 2.9 million tourists during this three-month period, marking a remarkable 17% increase compared to the first quarter of pre-Covid 2019. The surge in tourism can be attributed to the growth in outbound tourism markets, particularly from Spain, Britain, Italy, and the United States, as Morocco continues to position itself as an enticing destination.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, Handicraft, and Social and Solidarity Economy, the outstanding figures indicate the rising popularity of Morocco as a travel destination. February alone witnessed an impressive influx of almost two million visitors, reflecting a staggering 464% rise compared to the same period in 2022. The tourism ministry’s new roadmap, unveiled in March, sets ambitious goals to attract 17.5 million tourists and generate 200,000 new jobs by 2026, demonstrating the country’s commitment to further boosting the tourism sector. Visitors can also stay at boutique hotels in Marrakech the likes of Riad Elegancia to enhance their experience.
In pursuit of these objectives, the ministry, in collaboration with the National Tourism Office (ONMT), plans to enhance marketing efforts and strengthen air connectivity throughout 2023. The ONMT’s “Light in Action” action plan for 2023-2026 aims to position Morocco among the world’s top 10 destinations. With this remarkable surge in tourism, Morocco’s continued focus on attracting international visitors and facilitating an unforgettable travel experience is expected to fuel further growth and economic development in the years to come.
