Oman’s World Heritage Sites Attract Investments – Nizwa’s Rudaydah Castle Also in the Spotlight

At the end of last year, the importance of the five UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Oman was highlighted once more as was the fact that they were attracting all-important investments in the tourism sector; these are namely, the Bahla Fort, the archaeological sites of Bat, Al-Khutm and Al-Ayn, the Land of Frankincense, the Aflaj Irrigation Systems and the Ancient City of Qalhat which provide insights into the nation’s rich history. Due to the investments, they have been able to attract, they are helping to meet the objectives of the Oman Vision 2040 which includes reviving heritage sites.

In more recent news, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism of Oman made an agreement with Birkat al Mouz Investment Company to operate Nizwa’s 17th-century Bait ar Rudaydah Castle. This was put into the spotlight on the Muscat Daily news website on 14th February 2023; it further revealed that apart from its architectural features, the castle is also home to the Centre of Excellence for Historic Arms.
