Singapore welcomed more than 11.4 million international visitors during the first eight months of the year, a slight 1.7% decline from the same period last year, mainly due to fewer arrivals from Indonesia and India. Despite the softer figures, demand for centrally located accommodations such as Hotel 81 Chinatown has remained steady, with visitors continuing to favour properties within walking distance of the city’s main attractions.
August alone recorded 1.61 million arrivals, broadly in line with the same month a year earlier. Overnight visitors rose by nearly 6% from July to 1.24 million, with China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan and India remaining the top five source markets. Among these, only China and Malaysia recorded growth. With travellers arriving from such a diverse range of markets, Chinatown hotels in Singapore remain a popular choice for visitors looking to explore the area’s traditional shophouses and hawker stalls between sightseeing stops.
Singapore’s government continues to strengthen tourism investment, targeting 17 to 18 million international visitors in 2026. As part of this strategy, the country is expanding air connectivity by developing new flight routes and increasing flight frequencies to key destinations across Asia and Europe.
