Sri Lanka celebrates Vesak peacefully – An admirable change

Vesak festival- which celebrates the birth, enlightenment, and passing away of Lord Buddha is the most significant Poya day for Buddhists in the world, and in Sri Lanka Vesak is celebrated spiritually and culturally as well.

Although dansals (alms-giving food stalls) and bhakti gee sessions did not take place and pandols were not put up for this Vesak in 2020, people still managed to have a peaceful celebration, giving priority to their spiritual engagements. The next Poya will be the Poson Poya and Anuradhapura (especially Mihintale) is generally the area that hosts many special events for this Poya. Many Anuradhapura boutique hotels including ones such as Ulagalla will most likely make special arrangements for this Poya in June and they will also join the general public in illuminating the city with them while adding blessings to the whole nation in a responsible manner.
