Sri Lanka’s participation at one of the prominent trade fairs in Switzerland, ‘iViaggiatori’ have strengthened ties between the two countries. This joint effort made by Tourism Promotion Bureau and Sri Lanka mission in Geneva was crucial since Sri Lanka is fast becoming a hotspot among Swiss travellers. The recent introduction of the Swiss Air chartered flights “Edelweiss Air” for Zurich-Colombo-Zurich sectors further facilitated to enhance ties in the tourism industry. In addition, Sri Lanka’s recognition as the topmost tourist destination for 2019 by Lonely Planet will further smooth the way for promotional efforts in the Swiss market. The emergence of high-end resorts and many a Colombo city hotel the likes of Cinnamon Red Colombo have become another reason for Swiss travellers to set foot in this beautiful country. The growing rapport between the two countries will certainly augment the tourism industry in Sri Lanka since Swiss tourists are considered high spenders in leisure travel.
