Sri Lanka to Launch Global Tourism Promotion Campaign – A Step in the Right Direction

As reported on the Daily FT financial news website on 6th May 2022, Sri Lanka is preparing to launch an integrated Global Communication Campaign (GCC) that will cover five years. Quoted by Daily FT, Kimarli Fernando, the Sri Lanka Tourism Chairperson, mentioned that this campaign which has been worked on for more than a year and a half was in its final stages; she went on to say, that its launch would be at the appropriate time after discussions were held with all parties concerned.

This integrated campaign will encompass 25 markets in 16 regions with Destination Representative Companies in nations like China, the Middle East, the UK, India, Germany and Australia. Such initiatives will help to boost tourism in Sri Lanka which is already a popular holiday destination that apart from idyllic beaches, is also known for its UNESCO World Heritage Sites. These include the ancient Rock Fortress of Sigiriya and the historical kingdom of Polonnaruwa; nearby ‘Safe & Secure’ certified accommodation providers such as Hotel Sudu Araliya also offer an ideal base to explore such attractions in the island’s Cultural Triangle.
