Steps to Establish Wildlife Administration Units – A Timely Move

Given that both animals and humans suffer a great deal in designated wild animal conflict zones in Sri Lanka, the Minister of Sustainable Development and Wildlife, Gamini Jayawickrema Perera declared in early 2016 that wildlife administration units will be established in all relevant areas. Annually almost fifty human lives and two hundred elephants are lost when both parties come into fatal contact with each other. The establishment of wildlife administration units will minimize the tensions and ensure that these issues are handled prudently at the grassroots level.
