The Maldives Resumes Visa on Entry for South Asians – Tourist Arrivals on the Rise

On 15th July 2021, the Maldives once more began to issue visas on entry for South Asian travellers; due to the pandemic in the region, this process was initially halted in April this year, but after the overall situation improved, visitors from South Asia were welcome once more; they, like other travellers, can enjoy quarantine-free holidays here, but on arrival, must show a negative result of a RT-PCR test result taken within 96 hours before departure.

The reopening of borders for South Asians was particularly good news for Indian tourists who have enjoyed taking holidays this year to the Maldives. Five star hotels on private islands such as Adaaran Prestige Vadoo are amongst the popular accommodation options offering safe and cost-effective getaways. The last few months have seen tourist numbers gaining momentum and a notable feat was also achieved; according to Tourism Ministry data, from 1st to 25th August 2021, the country recorded 120,529 tourists which were more than the pre-pandemic levels in August 2019 that had 120,341 arrivals.
