Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort and IUCN to Support Sea Turtle Conservation – A Much Needed Initiative

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) recently joined hands with Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort in Sri Lanka with a specific focus on turtle conservation. The project will look to replicate similar successful initiatives by Anantara in other locations such as Thailand in enhancing the conservation of sea turtles that visit the beaches around the resort’s premises. Amongst the many things to do in Galle, Sri Lanka during a vacation, a visit to the entertaining and exotic turtle hatcheries and farms is one not to miss. The primary activities of the project include recognising the nesting sites of the turtles along the coast from the resort premises in Tangalle to Yala National Park, raising awareness on conservation of marine turtles and conducting a biodiversity survey with the collaboration of the Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC). The project was initiated on the 6th of May 2017 at the property and the joint project was signed between the General Manager of Anantara, Mr. Ross Sanders and the Country Representative of IUCN Sri Lanka, Dr. Ananda Mallawatantri.
