Japan tourist spots bring back public trash cans as travel rebounds – For litter free streets

With the surge of tourists arriving in Japan since the pandemic restrictions were lifted, famous tourist destinations have encountered the issue of streets being strewn with litter. Authorities have come to the conclusion that the main reason for the litter problem on the streets is the lack of trash cans. However, authorities have also mentioned that placing trash cans on the street is very expensive as the task of disposing and managing garbage in such instance impose higher costs.

Nonetheless, the major increase in tourism demands the management of litter on streets and therefore, the Japan National Tourism Organization is looking into less expensive and easier ways for waste receptacles. This includes using the latest technology to ensure that streets are clean. Visitors from Niseko accommodation the likes of Chatrium Niseko Japan will no longer have to carry their garbage back to their hotels or litter the streets in the near future.
