Royal Barge Procession in Bangkok

Last month saw the Royal Barge Procession being held in Bangkok as part of the concluding celebrations marking the royal coronation of King Rama X. This procession took place along the Chao Phraya River on 24th October 2019. While the waterway is popular for a Chao Phraya River cruise in Bangkok offered by the likes of Manohra Cruises, this event provided a unique spectacle that can only be witnessed on special occasions.

The Royal Barge Procession featured four royal barges which were part of a fleet of 52 ceremonial barges that traversed the river. Both the King and Queen of Thailand took part in the event aboard the Royal Barge Suphannahong which set off from Wasukri Pier to Ratchaworadit Pier. Those who witnessed the procession from designated sites on both sides of the Chao Phraya River were able to experience a one-of-a-kind event that also saw the participation of about 2,300 oarsmen.
