While business class on a single-aisle aircraft differs from a widebody, it remains a comfortable option for short flights. On June 18, a passenger flew South African Airways business class on an Airbus A320 from Johannesburg to Windhoek, Namibia. Renowned for its luxurious business cabins, SAA offered a chance to bid for an upgrade. Originally booked in economy, the passenger placed a minimum bid of $23 during an online check-in promotion and successfully upgraded to business class.
The upgrade included lounge access, additional baggage allowance, a special check-in counter, and priority boarding. The seats, though comfortable, showed some wear, and the leg rest was slightly unstable. Despite these minor issues, the cabin was clean, and the crew was friendly. The cabin featured power points, though the Type G sockets required adapters for most laptops. During the flight, a wide selection of beverages, including Amarula liqueur, was offered, enhancing the overall experience. The return flight is expected to have the same pros and cons, so if a traveller is flying from Windhoek to Johannesburg, whether on holiday with stays at hotels in Sandton, such as the NH Johannesburg Sandton, in mind or on business trips, these are useful pieces of information to keep in mind.
