The Sri Lankan tourism bureau lately conducted a prominent road show in Mumbai, and was especially for travel traders and wedding planners. Twenty-seven representatives of notable travel-related entities also accompanied the bureau in order to create awareness about tourism opportunities to the island of Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan Tourism Bureau’s Director of Marketing, Madubhani Perera, spoke about the importance of India as a market as far as Sri Lankan tourism is concerned. According to him, the focus of the road show was to ‘promote new attractions in Sri Lanka’. There have been many new resorts and hotels in Sri Lanka of recent times, with examples such as The River House. The popularity of eco-tourism has also made Sri Lanka a very popular destination for experiences such as Balapitiya excursions. There have been talks to conduct more road shows in other areas of India such as Chennai, Hyderabad and Pune to increase Sri Lanka’s number of Indian tourists.
