The island of Sri Lanka has seen an exponential growth in tourism ever since the end of the prolonged civil war. Currently, the nation’s government is putting a variety of plans into effect that will develop various aspects of the country to cater to the influx of tourists, which has been forecasted to increase to 4.5 million in the year 2020. The budget has allocated Rs.10 million to develop hotels and upgrade already existing facilities. There have been many additions to the hotel and resort scene of the nation, such as Aliya Resort & Spa, and the selection will continue to grow.

Rs. 75 million has been allocated to develop key railway stations around the island which would be recognised as heritage sites. Domestic airports around the island will also receive extensive development. Flight tours will easily be one of the top things to do in Sigiriya once the proposed domestic airport is set up there as well.
